There has been a surge of migrants at the border and criticism leveled at the administration from across the political spectrum over issues there. Republican lawmakers have rounded on the problems and blamed Biden’s stances on immigration as having exacerbated them. Meanwhile progressive lawmakers have questioned how those at the border are treated, with concerns raised over the detention of unaccompanied minors. Biden saw an approval bump last week as stimulus checks began to roll out, though his numbers have since dipped as criticism on the border persists....

A new poll by CNN and market research firm SSRS found that 56 percent of Democrat voters thought the former vice president was the best person in the primary field to handle foreign policy, while 38 percent backed him on the economy, compared to just 19 percent who said the same of second place Bernie Sanders. Biden was also found to have double-digit leads over his nearest rivals when it came to immigration policy and gun policy....

The major fundraising haul was raised online, according to the New York Times national political reporter Shane Goldmacher, who cited a Biden campaign official. Biden has outpaced the Trump campaign in crucial fundraising, enabling his campaign to spend more on TV advertising at a time when the president’s campaign was pulling back. The preliminary estimates from exit polls conducted by Edison Research, and published by The New York Times, showed Biden had won a projected 56 percent of the union vote in Michigan as of early Thursday morning. When similar exit polls were conducted in the state after the 2016 presidential election, pollsters found that 53 percent of voters in union households had backed Hillary Clinton, meaning Biden appears to have built on his predecessor’s standing among organized labor in the state....
