A federal jury in New York City deliberated Rapp’s $40 million civil suit for just over an hour on Thursday before deciding that his attorneys had not proven that Spacey sexually assaulted him in 1986. Rapp, best known for his role on Star Trek: Discovery, alleges that a then-26-year-old Spacey groped him and climbed on top of him at a party when he was 14 years old. “Anthony told his truth in court,” Rapp’s attorney Richard Steigman told Newsweek....

The Chicago Sun-Times reported that Smollett’s attorneys Tuesday night filed a motion to dismiss the city of Chicago’s attempt to recover more than $130,000 needed to investigate what they believe was a fake racist and homophobic attack against Smollett. Smollett was a star of the TV show Empire when he claimed he was attacked in late January by two men wearing “Make America Great Again” caps. Smollett claimed he was beaten and called racial and homophic slurs....

On Thursday, a jury found the former Empire star guilty on five out of six counts of disorderly conduct for lying about the 2019 incident, in which he had claimed two men doused him with bleach and tied a noose around his neck while shouting racial and homophobic slurs. While he faces a possible 15-year prison sentence—with each of the five counts carrying a penalty of up to three years behind bars—legal analysts have projected his previous lack of a criminal history will keep him from being jailed....

The COVID-era border policy, which was originally set to end this month, allows authorities to expel migrants over COVID-19 pandemic concerns. The Supreme Court’s decision allows the policy to remain in place while its termination is challenged in court. In his dissent, Gorsuch said that “the current border crisis is not a COVID crisis.” The pandemic, by way of this policy, previously allowed for the expulsion of would-be immigrants, but the federal government terminated such orders this past April when no longer necessary or appropriate, Gorsuch noted in his dissent, which was joined by Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson....
