Judge Rules Against Dismissing As Many As 250K Drug Convictions In Lab Misconduct Scandal

Tampering at the state drug testing lab has resulted in tens of thousands of convictions being overturned. Along with theft at another lab in Massachusetts, it’s one of the worst know lab scandals in the U.S. Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins said Wednesday she would appeal the judge’s decision to the state’s highest court. “Systemic problems require systemic solutions,” Rollins said in a statement. “Forcing individual parties impacted by egregious and extensive governmental misconduct to litigate just resolutions in approximately 70,000 separate cases…is grossly inefficient, patently unfair, and demonstrably inequitable....

July 6 1986 When Bob Horner Hit Four Home Runs And The Braves Still Lost

One such example happened on this day in 1986, when Braves slugger Bob Horner clubbed a record-tying four home runs — in an 11-8 home loss to the Expos. Horner was the 11th player in history to accomplish the four-homer feat, but he’s still the only player in the modern era to touch ‘em all four times in one game and still have his team come up short. Modern Braves fans would call that Barving....

Jumping To Conclusions

But “John Doe” is not an Arab name; it’s part of a Frank Capra movie title, resonant of everything American. On Thursday, when the sketches went out identifying the suspects as wearing crew cuts and tattoos, we feared we might have been too hasty in concluding that the bombing’s origins lay in the Middle East. By Friday, with the arrest of American Timothy McVeigh, the old line from the Pogo cartoon strip came to mind: “We have met the enemy-and he is us....

Justice Alito Accused Of Being Scotus Leaker After New Report Disgrace

“The Supreme Court Leaker - for Dobbs and Hobby Lobby - was Samuel Alito. Alito is a disgrace to this nation and as dangerous as any terrorist. He must be forced off the Court,” political commentator Keith Olbermann tweeted on Saturday. Meanwhile, New York Representative Mondaire Jones tweeted: “Today’s well-sourced NY Times article strongly suggests Justice Alito leaked the 2014 opinion in Hobby Lobby, and describes a conspiracy by the far-right donor class to influence the Supreme Court Justices....

Justin Verlander Has Next In Chase To 3 000 Strikeouts

Astros right-hander Justin Verlander is positioned to follow Sabathia into the record book as soon as next season, and he will likely surpass Sabathia thereafter, health permitting. He showed every bit of his world-class pitch deception Tuesday night in a 5-1 win over the White Sox, striking out 12 over eight innings while allowing just one hit. Verlander carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, but the bid ended when Jose Abreu drove a home run to left field....

Kalb Cancer Studies Want You

We should all be so determined. Cancer kills more than 1,500 Americans a day and costs over $200 billion a year in medical bills and lost productivity. While survival rates have improved significantly and new targeted drugs are transforming treatment, there’s still plenty that doctors don’t know about why healthy cells run amok. Prior studies have uncovered major links: smoking causes lung cancer; obesity ups the odds of colon, endometrial and postmenopausal breast cancer....

Kamala Harris More Liberal Than Bernie Sanders Senate Record Analysis Shows

The government watchdog website GovTrack.us ranked all 100 U.S. Senators with an “ideology score” from 1.0 (most conservative) to 0.0 (most liberal).
