The president’s recent hot mic remark calling Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy a “stupid son of a b***h” is the latest harsh criticism he’s levied and came just weeks after he took aim at former President Donald Trump. Biden’s tone is significantly different from the 2020 election and during much of his first year in office when he struck a conciliatory tone and called for national healing. He also previously expressed hope of forging bipartisan agreement....

A New York Times story published Saturday about Manchin’s hesitance to do away with the filibuster explains partially why he feels that it’s important to allow it to be kept, especially in having Democrats hold onto power in Congress. “I’m concerned about the House pushing an agenda that would be hard for us to maintain the majority,” he told the newspaper. Despite urging from progressive Democrats for Manchin to make changes to the filibuster, he does not feel threatened that a more progressive candidate may try to challenge him when he’s up for re-election....

Califf, 70, a cardiologist and clinical trial specialist, previously worked as FDA commissioner for the last 11 months of Barack Obama’s second term. Manchin also voted against his confirmation in 2016. Before that, Califf worked as the deputy commissioner of the FDA’s medical products and tobacco office, CNBC reported. He also was a researcher at Duke University for 35 years, helping design studies for many of the world’s biggest drugmakers....

Manchin added that he would stick to his guns regarding the filibuster, which requires a 60-40 vote in the Senate to overcome. 49ers starting left tackle Joe Staley was carted off the field in the third quarter and coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that the six-time Pro Bowl player has broken his fibula.
