Lake, who lost to Democratic Governor-elect Katie Hobbs in November, attempted to challenge the election results in a suit filed this month, accusing Hobbs and Maricopa County election officials of intentionally interfering with the midterm vote. The former candidate, who was backed by ex-President Donald Trump, faces over $33,000 in legal fees for witnesses who helped defend Hobbs and election officials in the suit’s two-day trial. The defendants had filed a motion to sanction Lake and her legal team for nearly $700,000 on Monday, but Maricopa County Judge Peter Thompson, who has presided over the case, denied the request in a decision on Tuesday....

The nearly two-minute video shared to Lake’s Twitter account on Wednesday evening shows clips of the Republican campaigning as the 1989 hit by Petty, the rock legend who died in 2017, plays in the background. A spokesperson for the Petty estate told Newsweek that Lake’s use of the song was “not approved or endorsed.” On Thursday, the estate added that “a take down order has been sent to Twitter and a cease and desist [is] going out today....

On Monday, Arizona’s Secretary of State Adrian Fontes sent a letter to Arizona’s Attorney General Kris Mayes referring Lake for investigation for what he said was a violation of state law by sharing several voters’ signatures on her Twitter page, citing a statute under Arizona law that states signature files “shall not be accessible or reproduced by any person other than the voter.” “The protections afforded by this subsection prohibit posting any information derived from voter registration forms or precinct registers to the internet, and under no circumstance may a person other than the voter or [a] statutorily authorized person reproduce a voter’s signature,” read the referral....

A joint poll from InsiderAdvantage and FOX 5 Atlanta released Wednesday shows that incumbent Loeffler is now trailing Warnock by two points, though four percent of respondents say they remain undecided. On Tuesday, city lawmakers approved a $88.9 billion 2021 budget that saw funding for the NYPD slashed by $1 billion. The budget cut came in response to widespread calls to “defund the police” following the killing of George Floyd, a Black man who died after a white Minneapolis police officer kneeled on his neck for nearly nine minutes during an arrest on May 25. While many lawmakers were in favor of slashing NYPD funding, some expressed disappointment, saying the $1 billion cut didn’t go far enough....

Deputies and detectives responded to the Somers House Tavern in the village of Somers in Kenosha County at 12.42 a.m. on Sunday, Sgt. David Wright, the public information officer for the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department, said in a news release. Three people were killed, while two victims who had been shot were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries, Wright said. The suspected shooter has not been located, Wright said....
