Torres was shot dead while walking through a crowd in downtown Orlando on Sunday. The fatal shooting took place on his daughter’s 4th birthday. According to police, Torres had bought a dress for his daughter’s birthday but was never able to give it to her. The suspect, 25-year-old Shaun Engram, who was arrested Wednesday, was in the Marines for over three years, Orlando Police Chief Orlando Rolon said at a news conference Thursday....

Kern County Judge Bernard Barmann issued a temporary restraining order that prevents the state from enforcing a vaccine mandate for guards and peace officers represented by a prison guards’ union while the court considers a request for a preliminary injunction, The Sacramento Bee reported. The California Correctional Peace Officers Association (CCPOA) had asked Barmann, who was appointed by California Gov. Gavin Newsom in December, to block the order for all prison employees....

Aubrey Gregory, Jr., brought a federal lawsuit against the Louisville Metro Government in August after he was demoted from major to lieutenant for using the “n-word” in a training program when two other Black people in the room used the word without facing repercussions. Federal District Court Judge Claria Horn Bloom dismissed the lawsuit late last month. “Gregory has failed to cite to anything that suggests the (the police force) discriminate against the majority,” she wrote....
