Hawley, a Republican from Missouri was the first senator to announce he was going to object to the Electoral College votes. While some of his colleagues reversed course after the violence seen at the Capitol earlier in the day, Hawley signaled he may continue forward with his objection to Pennsylvania’s results, saying the Senate floor was the appropriate, lawful forum for raising concerns. “I hope this body will not miss the opportunity to take affirmative action to address the concerns of so millions of Americans....

Philadelphia edge rusher Josh Sweat was injured early in the Eagles’ matchup vs. the Saints, suffering a neck injury that forced him onto a cart and out of the game. The trade unions said the arrest of the three CNN staffers in the middle of a live broadcast was an “absolute outrage” and part of a broader “war on media freedom.” They also said it was unacceptable for journalists to be “surrounded and arrested” for trying to do their jobs. U.S. District Judge Frederic Block on Monday granted a preliminary injunction against new HHS rules that were finalized on June 12 and set to go into effect on Tuesday. Block said the rules likely contradict a 6-3 U.S. Supreme Court decision that was issued three days later, finding that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people are included in protections against workplace discrimination on the basis of sex. “When the Supreme Court announces a major decision, it seems a sensible thing to pause and reflect on the decision’s impact,” Block wrote in his order....
The Jefferson County Circuit Judge was suspended with pay in April after investigators accused her of wrongdoing from being involved in debates over capital punishment and the death sentence. Todd was also charged with improperly barring a prosecutor from handling cases in her court, conducting her own investigations, and questioning a defense lawyer about political contributions. Todd, who ruled the state’s capital punishment law unconstitutional five years ago, made public comments and took actions that many believe showed she was improperly engaged in the issue and lacked the “detachment and neutrality” required of a judge, alleged the Judicial Inquiry Commission, which investigates complaints and files charges....
The appellate ruling determined the district court erred in determining the dangers posed by George Tanios, as he has no past felony convictions. “The record reflects that Tanios has no past felony convictions, no ties to any extremist organizations, and no post-January 6 criminal behavior that would otherwise show him to pose a danger to the community within the meaning of the Bail Reform Act,” the ruling said. Tanios was one of two men charged with the assault of Sicknick....
Lynchburg Circuit Court Judge J. Frederick Watson dismissed the suit Tuesday, calling into question whether the policies would affect the groups that filed the suit. “Because the model policies are directed only to school boards, they cannot affect or aggrieve anyone other than the school boards,” Watson wrote in his opinion. The lawsuit was rejected with a ruling that the groups who filed it lacked standing, and the policies to respect transgender and nonbinary students would not infringe upon other students’ rights to freely express religion....
Assange, 48, has been held in England’s Belmarsh prison since September after being removed from the Ecuadorian Embassy in London. His legal team is looking to fight a request from the United States for him to stand trial over multiple accusations of violating the U.S. Espionage Act.
