According to a new poll from Monmouth University, Biden’s pitch to eliminate $10,000 in college debt for anyone with an outstanding federal loan has 61 percent support among U.S. adults. Thirty-seven percent of those surveyed opposed the idea. When the amount was increased to $50,000 of debt cancelation, public support dropped to 45 percent. A majority of those polled—53 percent—opposed the proposition. Democrats overwhelmingly supported both measures, although 18 percent more backed Biden’s $10,000 proposal than the progressive pitch for $50,000....

Schwarzenegger, a Republican, was speaking at an environmental justice conference on Wednesday when he criticized the lack of communication surrounding the upcoming U.N. climate talks. The former politician was disapproving of the organization’s model that asks leaders to reach agreements with no promise that their governments will pass the measures. He specifically referenced the good intentions of former President Bill Clinton in signing the Kyoto Protocol but upon his return, Congress didn’t approve it....

Biden has encouraged Americans to wear face masks to help curb the spread of the coronavirus. President Donald Trump has offered mixed messages on mask wearing, often declining to wear one in public. During his Monday remarks, Biden underlined the importance of wearing masks and the continuing threat of the coronavirus. “I just want to make sure that we’re able to be together next Thanksgiving, next Christmas,” Biden said. “It is an international crisis, it’s an international health crisis....

During an appearance in Ramallah in the West Bank, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced Tuesday that $5.5 million would go toward emergency disaster relief in Gaza and $32 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency. That’s on top of millions more in aid to help Palestinians. “In total, we are in the process of providing more than $360 million of urgent support for the Palestinian people, and across these efforts, we will work with partners to ensure that Hamas does not benefit from these reconstruction efforts,” Blinken said....

He made the plea on Monday during a White House address marking the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) full approval of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID vaccine. Biden also urged employers and state and local officials to implement vaccine mandates now that the Pfizer shot has been approved, saying that other vaccine requirements “have been around for decades.” Biden said: “If you’re fully vaccinated — both shots, plus two weeks — your risk of severe illness from COVID-19 is very, very, very low....

In a speech addressing Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen, former Connecticut Senator Chris Dodd said his bipartisan group of ex-U.S. officials was there at the request of President Joe Biden in order to reaffirm the U.S.-Taiwan partnership, which he described as “stronger than ever.” Dodd’s delegation includes former deputy secretaries of state Richard Armitage and James Steinberg, as well as the director of the State Department’s Office of Taiwan Coordination, Dan Biers....

Manchin built his success as a moderate Democrat in an increasingly red state by walking a political tightrope that didn’t always adhere to party principles.
