Jones, an All-American, was the last surviving member of the Wildcats’ “Fabulous Five” that won the 1948 national championship and went on to claim Olympic gold that year with the U.S. team. He returned with three teammates under Hall of Fame coach Adolph Rupp to repeat as titlists in 1949. That wasn’t Jones’ only talent. Jones played football from 1945-48, including three seasons for legendary coach Paul “Bear” Bryant, and earned all-Southeastern Conference honors in 1946 and ‘48....

Kentucky coach John Calipari will get to that. For now, though, he’s concerned with how the NBA’s impending move to allow recent high school graduates into its draft will affect those young men. Calipari told Sporting News he wants the NBA Players Association to consider running a scouting combine for elite high school juniors who might be considering whether to advance directly into the draft following graduation. The NBPA already conducts its “Top 100 Camp” each June; Calipari believes refashioning that into a combine-style event, with players and their families presented instruction on how to manage such a move, would be a natural transition....

Billy Reynolds, a school bus driver and teacher, was detained on Thursday after an investigation by Kentucky State Police and the FBI. The 41-year-old allegedly offered $10,000 to the unidentified person to kill his mother and paid the individual a retainer fee in the lead up to his arrest. Officers became aware of the alleged murder plot on January 15 and made the arrest this week. WSAZ news said Reynolds lived next door to his mother along Route 986 in the city of Olive Hill, in the north east of the state....

The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on Wednesday that Shelly Stallings faces charges including assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers using a dangerous weapon for her alleged role in the attack. She joins the more than 750 people who have been arrested and charged in relation to the Capitol riot in 13 months. Stallings was named along with Virginia resident Markus Maly in a revised indictment that previously had two other defendants, one of whom was Stallings’ husband Peter Schwartz, according to the DOJ....

According to newly released court documents, 33-year-old Crystel Denham called police to her home in Corbin, Kentucky, after stabbing her cousin, Michael Barton, on October 28. Barton had reportedly “had come to her residence and they had gotten into an argument over a sex toy” which Denham had borrowed from him and wanted back. The two were neighbors as well as cousins. At one point during the conversation, Barton grabbed Denham by the elbow after she demanded that he get off her property....

Abdullah, an alleged al Shabaab operative, attended flight school in the Philippines and researched methods on how to get into the country and hijack a plane, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of New York said on Wednesday. WNBC reported on Wednesday. Abdullah was arrested in the Philippines in 2019 and had been affiliated with the terror group Al Qaeda since 2012, CNN Philippines reported at the time....

California Democrat Dianne Feinstein was the first senator to question Jackson, President Joe Biden’s nominee for a Court vacancy, on her views on the two landmark abortion cases during the second day of her confirmation hearings. “I do agree with both Justice Kavanaugh and Justice Barrett on this issue,” Jackson said Tuesday after Feinstein read aloud what the two justices said at their own confirmation hearings in 2018 and 2020, respectively....

Jackson will face the first round of questioning from 22 lawmakers on the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday following a day of opening statements. In her remarks on Monday, Jackson pledged to decide cases “without fear or favor” if appointed. Jackson’s nomination to the high court by President Joe Biden was met with little attack from Republicans last month, but in the days leading up to her hearings several lawmakers began to criticize her of being “soft” on crime....

The Los Angeles Times reported earlier this week that Durant has offloaded his beachfront mansion in Malibu for a cool $12.15 million just 14 months after purchasing it in April 2018. Durant’s sale of his swanky pad will only fuel speculation he’s prepping to sign a free agent contract with a team on the East Coast — likely the Nets or Knicks. He turned down his $31.5 million player option with the Warriors to become an unrestricted free agent earlier this week and, according to ESPN, the injured superstar is in New York with business manager Rich Kleiman “evaluating free agency options....

On Tuesday morning, the Nets released a statement announcing that the team will keep Durant, who reportedly requested a trade out of Brooklyn on June 30. “[Nets coach] Steve Nash and I, together with [team owners] Joe Tsai and Clara Wu Tsai, met with Kevin Durant and [Durant’s business partner] Rich Kleiman in Los Angeles yesterday,” Nets general manager Sean Marks said in the statement. “We have agreed to move forward with our partnership....
