VetoPelosi.com clearly stated that the site was associated with and paid for by Kevin McCarthy for Congress and that those who signed the petition would “become a member of Team Kevin McCarthy.”

However, the website briefly became inaccessible on Wednesday and now the URL redirects to a page at WinRed associated with Jim Banks, a Republican representing Indiana’s 3rd congressional district.

Banks was one of two Republicans McCarthy nominated to sit on the House select committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riot but who were rejected by Pelosi.

The other was Representative Jim Jordan, who is also mentioned in both versions of the “Veto Pelosi” website.

WinRed is a Republican fundraising platform set up to compete with ActBlue, a platform used by many Democratic candidates and left-leaning groups.

An archived copy of the original website from July 25 can be found using the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine. Its message took aim at Pelosi and criticized the House select committee.

“What is Nasty Nancy afraid of? We cannot allow her SHAM Committee to destory [sic] our country. Kevin McCarthy, Jim Banks, & Jim Jordan are fighting against her partisan power grab. Will you join them?” the page said.

Some social media users noted that VetoPelosi.com could no longer be accessed on Wednesday but early Thursday morning the URL redirected to the page at WinRed.

The purpose of the “Veto Pelosi” site was to collect names and contact information for a petition. That petition is now hosted at the new page that has a greater emphasis on Banks and doesn’t mention McCarthy.

“Pelosi vetoed Jim Banks and Jim Jordan from the Jan. 6 commission,” the site says.

“Pelosi KNOWS Jim would expose her radical agenda so she is trying to SILENCE him,” it goes on, calling on visitors to “Stand with Jim Banks” and “Veto Nancy Pelosi.”

Toward the bottom of the page, the site says: “By adding your name, you become a member of Jim Banks For Congress” and further down, a message from WinRed notes that it is “Paid for by WinRed. Not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee.”

It’s not clear why the change to the original website was made. Newsweek has asked McCarthy and Banks’ offices for comments, as well as WinRed.

On Tuesday, Banks told Fox News’ Laura Ingraham that police testimony to the House select committee earlier in the day was “carefully scripted.”

“Everything that you saw today was carefully scripted by Speaker Pelosi and her staff. Even the statements that these police officers read, you could tell at times they didn’t write the statements. They were merely reading them as they stumbled over some of the words that they weren’t familiar with as they were reading,” Banks said.

Newsweek has asked Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office for comment.
