MORE: Best players to change teams in their prime

The latest part of the drama comes from ESPN’s Royce Young, who spoke on the True Hoop Podcast this week about an alleged meeting between the NBA superstars. According to Young, Durant dined with Westbrook before taking meetings from teams in the Hamptons.

It’s possible Durant meant what he said at the time, but it’s not like his meeting with the Warriors this off-season was the first time he considered making the move. The talk about him going to Golden State took place for months, but he reportedly felt comfortable enough to tell Westbrook “don’t worry about me leaving.”

“Kevin Durant, more so than even that, was telling people, ‘Hey, yeah, I mean I’m coming back.’ Like I said in there, a week before Kevin Durant sat down in the Hamptons, he was in Oklahoma City ready to make an offer on a multi-million-dollar house. So, the guy was pretty serious about coming back, and then things turned rather quickly for him to leave. And there’s no doubt that the organization felt a little bit burned by this.”

If what Young is saying is true, then it’s understandable why Westbrook would feel “hurt” by the move.
