The scenario of Palmer donning a superhero costume was posed by a TikTok user named Jacob Ford Ridgway user, who recommended Hollywood producers cast the star as Rogue in any potential new Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films featuring the X-Men character. Ridgway’s video pushing Palmer for the role has since gone viral with other social media users backing his idea.
On Thursday, Ridway’s TikTok got even more attention after Palmer herself shared it on her official Twitter account. In a sign that she approved the message contained in the clip, Palmer captioned the post, “Come on agentttttttt.”
Palmer has yet to appear in an MCU project, though she recently enjoyed starring in one of the summer’s biggest hits, Jordan Peele’s Nope. She’s also no stranger to working with large franchises after she recently lent her voice to the Disney/Pixar animated film Lightyear.
Ridgway’s TikTok was inspired by a recent video Palmer shot for Vogue, in which she styles different outfits. One of the fashion choices was a matching leather pants and shirt look, which Palmer said could “manifest a superhero role.”
Ridgway expressed his enthusiasm about Palmer taking on a superhero part, but he lamented choices such as DC’s Bumblebee and X-Men’s Storm that were suggested by others in the comment section for Vogue’s video.
He said such choices “disregard Keke’s personality, which is what makes her a fun, watchable actor.”
“If you want her to deliver a powerhouse lead, she’s got to have room to play in that role,” Ridgway continued. “There’s only one way I can think of to give her that fun, boisterous role that she thrives in while also p**sing a bunch of people off: Let her be Rogue.”
The suggestion was met with overwhelming approval in the TikTok’s comments.
“Dude Rogue is my fav character and this is PERFECT for that character,” one person wrote.
Another TikTok user said, “This is a fire idea!!!”
After Palmer tweeted out the video, Ridgway posted another video where he wrote that after being acknowledged by the star, “I’m never going to fail.”
When contacted by Newsweek for comment, Ridgway responded in an email, “Being a casting agent or similar contributor to film has been a longtime aspiration of mine, so when it can combine my lifelong love of comics, I’m doubly invested in seeing the most perfect possible adaptations be made.”
He added, “I’m a phone call or email away if Marvel ever wants that kind of input in their office (not a joke; I would drop everything) and having just begun my first year of law school—the prospect of being Keke’s real agent isn’t a far-off possibility. It makes me really happy to see such support for an idea of mine and how it excites X-fans and Keke-fans alike, I just hope studios are willing to listen to this kind of genuine input from fans rather than presuming what we’d want.”
Marvel Studios has not announced any imminent plans for a new X-Men movie or television project. The most recent live-action portrayal of Rogue was by actress Anna Paquin in the 20th Century Fox X-Men franchise that ran from 2000 to 2014.
Newsweek reached out to Palmer for comment.
