After winning the interim WBA welterweight title in 2013, Thurman was promoted to regular champion in 2015. He defended the title against Robert Guerrero, Luis Collazo, Shawn Porter, Danny Garcia and Josesito Lopez. He won the WBC title against Garcia. Thurman lost the WBA belt to Manny Pacquiao in 2019 via split decision. He has been healing from injuries since that fight. 

Barrios made his pro debut in 2013. A WBA super lightweight champion, he successfully defended the title once. His last fight was a TKO loss at the hands of Gervonta Davis in June 2021. He lost the title in the process.
