Manuela—who uses she, they pronouns—took to their social media on Sunday, October 23, to call out Swift, 32, whose new album, Midnights, dropped on Friday.

Manuela shared side-by-side videos via Instagram and Twitter of “Anti-Hero” as well as footage from Glimmer, which they released in April, to show the similarities.

In the clips, both Manuela and Swift stared into a mirror while their clones hovered behind them. They each high fived their clones before later climbing on top of a roof. While Manuela pushed her clone off of the roof, Swift shoved hers off a bed.

There were also scenes that incorporated purple glitter and depicted the women playing with dollhouse pieces.

“I’m literally a #swiftie so it’s simultaneously painful and such an honor to even beg this question - am i on a moodboard??” she captioned the footage, adding the hashtags, “#antihero #taylorswift #midnights.”

“I know that so many ppl who follow me and I’m asking for help from are terrified to side with me bc it implies that they’re against Taylor. She is POWERFUL. Who wouldn’t be terrified?” they wrote in a statement via their Instagram Story.

“But please: How do you think this whole thing makes me, a Swiftie, feel? Can you picture me staying up to listen to Midnights and to watch the ‘Anti-Hero’ music video premiere only to watch my work play out at me? A #1 trending video on YouTube a copy paste of mine. Having to read promo posts that wink at a concept album like mine,” Manuela continued. “Unfortunately, I will not be shutting up about this anytime soon.”

Newsweek reached out to Swift’s representative for comment.

Glimmer features six tracks and was released on April 1, 2022 by the indie musician.

In a separate Story, Manuela pointed out that Swift referenced the word “glimmer” while announcing her bonus tracks on social media.

“What keeps you up at night? It’s a momentary glimmer of distraction,” the message read, which Manuela circled. “The tiniest notion of reminiscent thought that wanders off into wondering, the spark that lights a tinderbox of fixation. And now it is irreversible. The flame has caught. You’re wide awake.”

Kehlani, 27, who also uses she/they pronouns, seemingly weighed in on the drama by sharing Manuela’s Instagram to their own Instagram Story.

“Thank you, @Kehlani,” Manuela said alongside a red heart while reposting the note to their Story.

Others stood up for Manuela too.

In the comments, singer Brian McKnight Jr. said, “Way too close!” while verified user KhakiKid agreed, “Nah this is wild? S***’s essentially 1:1.”

A third, meanwhile, said, “Jesus. This is glaringly obvious. You need a fat check,” and someone else chimed in, “Imitation is the highest form of flattery.”

On Monday’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Swift reacted to the success of Midnights, which is already the top-selling album of 2022.

“I’m beside myself, really,” she said during her chat with host Jimmy Fallon. “I’m feeling very overwhelmed by the fans’ love for the record.”

Swift has not spoken out about the backlash.
