The 27-year-old star re-signing with Toronto this summer is a “serious consideration now,” ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Monday on “The Woj Pod.”
Wojnarowski said:
The Raptors acquired Leonard — along with Danny Green — from the Spurs in exchange for a package centered around DeMar DeRozan in a blockbuster trade last offseason. Leonard can opt out of his contract and become a free agent after 2018-19.
Leonard has taken his game to another level so far in the playoffs. He’s averaging 32.3 points and 7.7 rebounds while shooting 50% from 3-point range.
The Raptors easily advanced past the Magic in their opening-round matchup and will enter Game 5 against the 76ers on Tuesday with the series tied at 2-2.
Wojnarowski added:
Leonard has previously been linked to the Clippers and rival executives believe he “likes” the team, according to an earlier report from Bleacher Report . But, Leonard has been quiet about his free agency plans for most of the season.
“As long as I have on a jersey I want to play basketball,” Leonard told reporters in September. “I came here with an open mind. I want to do great things so I’m going to make sure that I put my full effort on the court each and every night.”
Game 5 between the Raptors and 76ers will tipoff Tuesday at 8 p.m ET.
