In their Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed that Harry’s interest was piqued when he saw a cell phone photo of Meghan, who at the time had a role on hit legal drama Suits.

“Meghan and I met over Instagram,” Harry explained. “I was scrolling through my feed, and someone who was a friend had this video of the two of them, like a Snapchat… I was like, ‘Who is that?’”

The unnamed friend then reached out to Meghan and asked if she would be interested in meeting “Prince Haz.”

“I asked if I could see his feed,” Meghan recalled. “That’s the thing when people say did you Google him? No, but I [scrolled through his Instagram feed], that’s your homework. You’re like, ‘Hmm, let me see what they’re about in their feed.’

“Not what someone else says about them, but what they are putting out about themselves. That to me was the best barometer. So I went through and it was just beautiful photography and all these environmental shots, and this time he was spending in Africa.”

However, comedian Griffin, who insists that she does “love” the couple, has revealed that she’s “disappointed” to learn that the two met in such a pedestrian way, especially given Harry’s royal status.

“OK, so what about how they met?” Griffin said in a video shared on TikTok and Instagram on Sunday. “I am disappointed. I’m just gonna tell you right to your faces. They met on freaking Instagram! Yeah, Prince Harry was just flipping through Instagram, looking for another hot brunette, like every other guy in L.A.”

“So I’m disappointed,” she went on. “I thought this was gonna be a great love story. I mean, have they not watched The Crown? Remember Elizabeth, where she was in love with the horse guy her whole life, right? But then she couldn’t have him.

“And then Anne was in love with, like, the military guy. And I mean, Jesus, even Chuck and Camilla, for God’s sake. But they met on Instagram.

“Like, Prince Harry’s like Armie freaking Hammer! What if Prince Harry is the new House of Hammer? Alright, my new favorite thing is to compare Prince Harry to Armie Hammer, because it makes no sense. But really, Instagram?”

Griffin’s comparing of Harry to Hammer appears to be purely over his use of social media, rather than any of the disgraced actor’s alleged actions.

Recent allegations about Hammer and his family’s legacy were investigated in the Discovery+ docuseries House of Hammer, which debuted in September. The three-part series featured new testimony from members of Hammer’s family, and interviews with women who claimed they received inappropriate DMs from Hammer, including some with cannibalistic themes.

The Call Me By Your Name star—who has denied all accusations of sexual violence, rape and assault made against him—was dropped by his agency soon after the allegations emerged in 2021. He also reportedly entered rehab that was allegedly funded by Robert Downey Jr.

As reported by Vanity Fair last year, several screenshots were posted on social media from alleged victims that appeared to show Hammer describing sexual fantasies of rape and cannibalism.

In one text, obtained by Vanity Fair, he allegedly wrote: “I am 100% a cannibal… F***. That’s scary to admit. I’ve never admitted that before. I’ve cut the heart out of a living animal before and eaten it while still warm.”

In another, he allegedly sent one woman: “Raping you on your floor with a knife against you. Everything else seemed boring. You crying and screaming, me standing over you. I felt like a god. I’ve never felt such power or intensity.”

Things escalated when a woman, under the name of “Effie,” came forward with an allegation of rape and a violent attack that occurred in 2017. She thought “he was going to kill me,” Vanity Fair reported.

With the first three of Harry & Meghan’s six episodes being released by Netflix last Thursday, Griffin said in an earlier social media post that she found “comedy” in the docuseries.

“I am not trashing them—they can do no wrong,” she said. “First of all, Meghan kind of acts like she was never on Deal or No Deal. And when I say ‘kind of acts like’ that, I mean they don’t acknowledge it at all, which is hilarious to me, because that’s a good gig if you’re an actress. That’s like a union high-paying job.

“Also, acting like they can do so much good in the world, which is great and aspirational, but when’s the last time a royal like did anything to help the world? That’s all I’m saying.”

A newly unveiled trailer for the remaining episodes of Harry & Meghan shows Harry stating that he was treated differently than his elder brother, Prince William.

“I wonder what would have happened to us if we hadn’t got out when we did,” Harry said of his and Meghan’s decision to step down as senior royals and move to California. “I said, ‘We need to get out of here.’”

One of the most incendiary parts of the trailer comes as clips of negative press coverage of Harry and Meghan are shown before a photograph of Buckingham Palace appears on screen, with Harry delivering the line: “They were happy to lie to protect my brother but were never willing to tell the truth to protect us.”

What lies the prince could be referring to aren’t explored in the trailer.

The remaining episodes of Harry & Meghan are set to be released on December 15.
