The comedian was rushed to hospital after attending a Los Angeles party on September 3, where the tainted batch of the drug was consumed by some partygoers, including comedy writer Fuquan Johnson who later died. Quigley was hospitalized in critical condition.
Responding to a tweet wishing her a speedy recovery from her friend and fellow comedian Jamie Kennedy, Quigley, 39, said she was “on the mend.”
Quigley responded to a number of tweets, telling another well-wisher: “Working hard to get back to life!!!!”
To another friend she confirmed she was still in hospital, tweeting: “im gonna be ok. Stll in hospital, recovering slowly. Thanks so much to everyone who has reached out!!! It really has made a difference. Truly.”
The model and comedian later posted a statement to her Twitter, updating fans and friends on her health and recovery process following the tragic events.
“Hi love bugs. - Ive stayed off my phone a couple days & prolly will for a while,” she tweeted. “I’m still healing physically & mentally. But reading all the positive messages from u guys is makin me cry tnight. Thank u. So grateful for the support & love. U have no idea how much it’s helping.”
Johnson, 42, and Enrico Colangeli, 48, died from suspected drug overdoses following the party which took place in the Venice Beach area of the city. Natalie Williamson, 33, also died—she was also a comedian and a personal friend of Quigley’s.
TMZ reports that the LAPD is investigating the incident but that there is no suspicion of foul play in the deaths at present. The outlet says that authorities are unclear on who supplied the cocaine at the party.
Fentanyl is a drug 100 times more potent than heroin that has become a popular way to cut certain recreational drugs including cocaine. It has been linked to the deaths of other celebrities including Prince, Mac Miller and Tom Petty.
Quigley’s mother Fran Wyles updated fans via Facebook on September 5, revealing that while she was stable, she was not lucid.
“Thank you everyone for your prayers and positivity. Kate is stable. She still isn’t lucid for more than a moment at a time. We are optimistic that she will recover (tho it won’t be quick),” Wyles wrote.
