The Bianconeri had led Serie A or at least shared the lead for 552 consecutive days until last month, but were momentarily knocked off their perch as Inter Milan racked up six wins in as many games to start the season.

Normal service was restored just before the international break, as Juventus won 2-1 in Milan against its arch-rivals, snapping their winning streak and overtaking them at the top of Serie A.

It was a timely reminder that while Inter has spent big in the summer and will be a force to be reckoned with, the proverbial rumors of defending Serie A champions’ demise had been greatly exaggerated.

Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri, however, was eager for his team to move on from the win against Inter Milan and focus on the game against Bologna on Saturday instead.

“We are not interested in looking at the table right now, we must be focused on performing well, because then the results would be a logical consequence of that,” he said in his press conference on Friday, as per Italian daily La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“It was an important match, we got the three points, but it is in the past. We must shift our focus to a difficult fixture due to the reasons I mentioned before. It is never easy to play after the break.”

When Sarri was appointed in the summer, one of the key questions focused on how quickly his players would adapt to a playing style that differs vastly from that of his predecessor.

The former Chelsea coach, however, hinted he was happy with his team’s response so far, although he conceded there was room for improvement.

“The formation is not that simple but we are pulling it off, we are doing the defensive phase not perfectly but pretty well.”

With a home game against Lokomotiv Moscow in the Champions League coming up on Tuesday, Sarri could be tempted to rotate his squad. His options, however, are limited, with Douglas Costa still out injured, while Aaron Ramsey and former Manchester City defender Danilo only recently returned to training.

While Juventus has moved to the top of the league, Bologna is without a win in Serie A in the last four games and while it sits 11th on the table, it is only three points clear of the relegation zone.
