Kuala Lumpur (KL) attacker Junior Aparecido Guimaro de Souza has had a less-than-stellar start to his stint at the promotional side, since joining them in the pre-season.
Out of seven of the Hawks’ competitive matches this season, the Brazilian-born winger has made only four appearances without scoring any goals. Worryingly, he did not make any appearance in their three most recent matches, which all ended in victories.
But the 27-year old has underplayed his current form when met by Goal last week, citing the need for more time to settle in the team as one of the newest members of the squad.
“I just joined the team, whereas most of my teammates have been playing together since last year. For now I’m just trying to adapt to their playing style and system.
“Once that is out of the way I’m confident that I will show what I’m capable of. I know I need to improve because I’m a new player here,” said Junior after KL’s friendly match against UKM FC last Friday.
And the former Selangor and Sarawak player is determined to work hard in order to win a spot in KL’s starting eleven in their next match; their first leg quarter-final FA Cup match against former club and Klang Valley derby rivals Selangor. In their friendly against UKM, the Timor-Leste international scored two goals en route to helping the Hawks win 4-1.
“I have no particular emotion [towards Selangor] as I am a professional player. This is our job and we have families to feed, although we respect Selangor as they are a good club.
“I want to play [against Selangor]. I worked very hard today because I want to help my teammates. At the end of the day it’s the coach who has decide who gets to play, and our job is to be ready and play well when picked,” he remarked.
