Independent artist Joyner Lucas recently put music festival Lollapalooza on blast via social media after the festival put his name on the lineup—even though he declined.
In a series of tweets, Lucas—known for songs including “Isis” (278 million streams on Spotify) and “I Love” (179 million streams)—detailed his annoyance about the incident.
Lucas explained in another tweet that a friend asked him what time he was set to hit the stage. Confused, he “went and looked at the flier and had to find a microscope to find my name. Disrespectful. They said i had to get my numbers up to be respected. So I went top 10 billboard independently. Still this.”
He wrote: “These festivals is gon stop playing with me like I ain’t that n****. Putting my name next to the names of a bunch of random n***** that nobody heard of and offering me a weak ass [money]. Then I say no to the offer and these hoe ass n***** put me on the flier anyways.”
However, his name has been taken off the lineup via the music festival’s official website.
He goes on to explain that other artists higher up in the lineup aren’t doing as well as him, “I’m the biggest independent artist period with the exception of my n**** tech. And I got the numbers & the fans & the [money] to back that statement up. How is it that these festivals keep tryna bunch my name up with a bunch of n***** who ain’t on my level?. n**** I’m JOYNER LUCAS.”
To make matters more complicated, Joyner called out Machine Gun Kelly who is also slated to play. The two have taken to opposing sides of fellow rapper Eminem, whom Lucas has worked with to diss MKG. Kelly recently came under fire after an old video resurfaced of the pop/punk/rapper revealing his celebrity crush, Kendall Jenner—who was underage at the time.
“someone said “don’t bring out the rap devil”… maaaaannnn listen. Lol What my brother Marshall did to this n**** @machinegunkelly is light compared to what’s waiting if he wanna walk down that street wit me,” he said.
Newsweek has reached out to Lucas’ reps for comment but did not immediately hear back.
