In a post shared to TikTok on August 30, user Jo (@heythatsjo823) can be seen wearing a baby wrap containing her 18-year-old dog Mimi, who looks incredibly content with the situation.

Users couldn’t get enough of the tiny canine and her happy face, with the cute clip receiving over 2.6 million views and 589,000 likes at the time of writing.

They may be older, but exercise still has numerous benefits for senior dogs, such as maintaining balance and flexibility, improving stamina and endurance, and even supporting their attention span and focus.

However, Nell Ostermeier—a veterinarian and American Kennel Club (AKC) Pet Insurance spokesperson—said it is also important to acknowledge that your pet’s needs have changed, and that sometimes carrying them is the better option.

“Some senior dogs will show obvious signs that they are too tired or uncomfortable to keep walking or exercise,” she told Newsweek.

“Other senior dogs need help regulating, so it is important that you monitor their activity level and step in if they overdo it.”

She warns owners to watch for physical signs such as heavier panting, lagging behind, dragging their hind feet or needing to stop and rest during a walk.

Certain signs that your dog has overdone it won’t be immediately obvious. If your pet is acting sore, appears stiff, has issues with getting up or down, or spends a long time sleeping, Ostermeier advises cutting the next walk short.

“If your senior dog indicates that they are too tired and it is obvious, it is actually safer to pick them up and carry them home,” she said.

“Senior dogs typically have arthritis which can be painful or other musculoskeletal conditions that come with the wear and tear of having a long, happy life. While we want them to keep moving, we don’t want them to be in pain.”

In the video, filmed in front of a bathroom mirror, Jo can be seen wearing a baby carrier with Mimi inside. Sitting comfortably in the peach-adorned wrap, the petite pup appears to have a huge smile on her face.

“Mimi is 18 and starting to slow down,” said Jo in the post’s caption. “She loves the beach, so bought this carrier so she doesn’t struggle to walk on the sand.”

The adorable footage made TikTokers emotional, with user Jackie Gonzalez calling the small senior “perfect.”

“That smile,” commented Jazzy Lynne.

“HER FACEEE IM CRYING SHES SO CUTE,” wrote Goddess.

“You can clearly tell that you have given her the best life. Look at that wittle smile,” wrote another user.

“I literally cannot handle her little look of [contentedness],” said Cailey Archer. “Just so happy to just be hanging with mom. I can’t.”

While Gabby requested: “Now you have to show us her in it on the beach. She’s so adorable.”

Mimi isn’t the only canine companion to get a lift from their devoted owner. A dinky dog named Sky recently took over TikTok after joining her owner for a bike ride thanks to a backpack, while one Labrador’s piggyback ride down the stairs also had the internet in hysterics.
