According to the source, Norman contacted the Panthers last Wednesday after being told that the tag guaranteeing him $13.952 million for 2016 was rescinded, going so far as offering to fire his agent, Michael George, and sign the tag.

By that point, however, the Panthers had decided to move on.

Suddenly a free agent, Norman — who claimed to be “sideswiped” by his release — on Friday signed a five-year, $75 million deal with the Redskins.

A new agent, Ryan Williams, handled Norman’s free-agent negotiations, while George was kept as a co-representative so Norman wouldn’t have to wait five days to sign with another team.

Norman is scheduled to address the media Monday in Washington.
