Smith was expected to miss the remainder of the Panthers’ season after being severely burned on his head, neck, back, shoulder and arm.
Smith’s girlfriend, Mary Gaspar, was charged with aggravated battery. According to an affidavit obtained by The Miami Herald, Gaspar told FIU police she scalded Smith because he wasn’t paying enough attention to her and she was stressed over their relationship.
