Taylor is charged with one felony count of aggravated assault and two misdemeanors — simple battery and battery — from a July 2014 incident involving his former girlfriend. His next court date is set for June 30.

“We’re glad to see the process finally starting, so the whole picture and the whole story can finally come out, eventually,” Taylor’s lawyer Kim Stephens told reporters Tuesday morning. “Whether it be some sort of resolution that’s worked out with the D.A.’s office, or whether we go to trial, we’re anxious to see that all sides of the story come to light.”

According to reports at the time of the incident, Taylor “choked” the victim and “struck (her) with a closed fist” inside a Georgia dorm room. He was dismissed from Georgia one day after his arrest.

Taylor, who spent last fall at a junior college and then transferred to Alabama, is also facing a charge of domestic violence in Tuscaloosa, Ala. He was arrested March 28 and dismissed from the Crimson Tide a day later.

However, his accuser told police last week that she lied about the incident. Tuscaloosa Police have said the charges against Taylor “will be reviewed at a later date,” but Alabama has said he will not return to the school.

The defensive tackle is also facing a charge of theft by deception in Georgia after he and three teammates double-cashed their scholarship checks from UGA.
