Joe Philbin, despite a disappointing season and rumors of a hot-seat placement, will return as Miami’s coach in 2015, owner Stephen Ross told reporters after the Dolphins’ 37-35 win over the Vikings on Sunday.

The Dolphins went 7-9 in Philbin’s first season and improved to 8-8 last year. Ross called for progress prior to the 2014 season, but some observers believed it would take a playoff appearance for Philbin to save his job.
