The noisy insect flew at him while he was chatting to an official outside Air Force One on the tarmac of Joint Base Andrews, in Maryland.

The moment was caught on camera by CNN, and shows the president swipe the bug off him before pointing at it on the ground.

Speaking to journalists just after the incident Biden, 78, said: “Watch out for the cicadas. I just got one. It got me.”

CNN White House reporter Kate Sullivan tweeted footage of the incident, along with the caption: “The President swats a cicada off of his neck before getting on Air Force One.”

The clip has so far been viewed more than 92,500 times and many have taken to the comments section to make light of President’s brief encounter.

One Twitter user, @jaiishiv, wrote: “Its might not be a simple cicada……it might be a conspiracy…..”

Another person, known as @Eiqhl, commented: ““Did they check to make sure it wasn’t sent by ’the Russians’!? Or ’the Chinese’!?”

A third, @Denis_Buchholz, added: “You KNOW if the former guy had one land on his neck he would have screamed and ducked for cover behind his Secret Service detail….”

But the president’s neck was not the only target of the flying bugs, as they also managed to prevent the White House press plane from taking off from Dulles International Airport near Washington D.C. on Tuesday night.

The animals infested the plane’s engine, and according to The New York Times, a new plane had to be called in from New York.

The plane’s Tuesday 9 p.m ET departure was delayed to Wednesday at 2:15 a.m. ET.

This delay is nothing in comparison to the many years the cicadas have had to wait before taking off.

The cicadas first came out from underground in May on the East Coast. Periodical cicadas emerge every 13 or 17 years in North America. The cicadas that are emerging this year are known as “Brood X.”

They are very loud, and trillions of them are swarming the eastern part of the U.S.

Still, Biden’s departure on Wednesday morning was not affected and is set to include three stops on his first international trip on Air Force One.

During his week-long trip, he will first head to the United Kingdom for a G7 summit in Cornwall.

He will then head to Belgium to attend a NATO summit and then on to Switzerland to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
