A short video clip shared on social sites including Twitter and Gab shows a large group of people lining the route Biden’s motorcade took and shouting at the cars as they pass.
Some were carrying Trump signs and flags and others waved large American flags, while several people raised their middle fingers at the motorcade. At least one man can be heard chanting “Trump! Trump! Trump!”
The incident took place in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley region and some who shared the video said it had been filmed in Allentown, which is consistent with Biden’s route on Wednesday.
Pennsylvania newspaper and website The Reporter estimated that there were around 100 Trump supporters present and about the same number of Biden supporters.
The president was en route to Mack Truck Lehigh Valley Operations in Lower Macungie Township.
He had arrived via Lehigh Valley International Airport, according to a report from Lehigh Valley Live, and his motorcade made its way to the truck facility
According to Google Maps, the route from Lehigh International Airport to Macungie by car takes around 30 minutes and passes directly through Allentown, where the Trump supporters were reportedly recorded.
Photos from Lehigh Valley Live also show some of former President Trump’s supporters on Route 100 outside the Mack Trucks facility waiting for the arrival of Biden’s motorcade.
Biden was also greeted by some of his own supporters, who carried American flags. At least one Biden/Harris sign could be seen in photos of the motorcade’s route, while some attending also carried signs saying “Biden: No Fossil Fuel Projects.”
The president won Pennsylvania’s 20 Electoral College votes in the 2020 presidential election. He won the statewide popular vote with 50 percent to former President Trump’s 48.8 percent.
Biden’s visit to Pennsylvania on Thursday caused a minor furor after local news channel WFMZ-TV captured audio of the president saying he had once driven an 18-wheeler truck.
The Republican National Committee (RNC) Research Twitter account shared the audio clip, while RNC Research Director Zach Parkinson wrote that there is “zero evidence that Biden ‘used to drive an 18 wheeler.’”
Biden delivered a speech to workers at the Mack Truck facility on Wednesday and emphasized the need to “buy American.”
“Today, I’m here to talk about a commitment that’s sacred to me and central to our efforts to keep things moving. It’s a straightforward solution: support and grow more American-based companies,” the president said.
“Put more Americans to work in union jobs,” he went on. “Strengthen American manufacturing and secure critical supply chains. And confront the climate crisis, which is all about jobs.”
“I can sum it up in two words: Buy American,” the president said.
