While his social media presence is nowhere near as unpredictable or headline-grabbing as Donald Trump’s, Biden has still managed to create huge buzz online this election year.
On November 7, after virtually all news outlets declared him the winner of the election following several days of postal vote counting in Pennsylvania, Biden sent his most popular tweet of all time.
“America, I’m honored that you have chosen me to lead our great country,” Biden wrote.
“The work ahead of us will be hard, but I promise you this: I will be a President for all Americans—whether you voted for me or not.
“I will keep the faith that you have placed in me.”
As of December 27, the tweet has been retweeted more than 622,000, with a further 148,000 quote retweets.

The tweet has also been liked more than 3.3 million times, making it one of the most popular posts of all time on the social network. Vice President-elect Kamala Harris’ victory tweet claiming “we did it, Joe” the same day, currently has more than 3.4 million likes.
Biden’s tweet was sent along with a video aiming to show how he intends to reunite the nation and lead a “country for all Americans” following Trump’s often divisive presidency.
Biden’s second most popular tweet this year came in response to remarks made by President Trump in April.
Biden was reacting to the outcry caused by Trump suggesting it could be worth researching if injecting disinfectant into the body would be a good way to kill off COVID.
“And then I see the disinfectant where it knocks it out in a minute. One minute,” Trump said while facing towards Dr Deborah Birx, the White House coronavirus response coordinator
“And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning? It’d be interesting to check that.”
Biden soon joined in with the widespread condemnation of the president suggesting such a potentially lethal method to treat the virus.
“I can’t believe I have to say this, but please don’t drink bleach,” Biden tweeted on April 24. The tweet has been shared more than 360,000 times and liked over 1.6 million times.
Perhaps unsurprisingly in an election year, another of Biden’s most popular tweets referenced Trump.

In September, Biden shared a video of Trump declaring at one of his rallies: “If I lose to him, I don’t know what I’m gonna do. I will never speak to you again.”
Biden shared the video with the caption: “I’m Joe Biden and I approve this message.”
The tweet has been shared more than 302,000 times, with the 10-second clip viewed more than 20.8 million times online.
Another one of Biden’s tweets with a simple message also became one of his most popular of the year.
