Kimmel slammed the pro-gun congresswoman for complaining about “violent threats” when she previously raffled off a gun to raise money for her campaign. He also pointed out the hypocrisy of her reporting him to Capitol Police, when she voted against awarding them the Congressional Gold Medal over the January 6 insurrection.
Often referred to as the “QAnon congresswoman,” Representative Greene of Georgia says she filed a complaint with the Capitol Police over a joke Kimmel made on Tuesday night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!
The Tuesday joke that sparked the war of words began when Kimmel asked the audience, “Where is Will Smith when you really need him?” while discussing Greene’s claim that those who supported Ketanji Brown Jackson to serve on the Supreme Court were “pro-pedophile.” Kimmel responded to Greene’s claim by tweeting, “Officer? I would like to report a joke.”
Green went on to accuse Kimmel of misogyny and called his joke a “dog whistle to the violent left” by jokingly suggesting that she should be slapped by Will Smith.
Kimmel laid into Greene on Thursday night’s show, lambasting the politician for attempting to gain “political mileage” out of the situation and labeling her a “sweet little snowflake.”
“Once again I find myself in the middle of a brouhaha as I appear to have run afoul of probably the worst woman in American politics, Marjorie Taylor Greene, the congressperson from the 14th district of Georgia,” Kimmel began in his Thursday night monolog.
“She called the police and reported this,” Kimmel said of his Will Smith joke.
“Not only don’t I condone death or any kind of threats against anyone—especially as I get dozens of them a week myself from the sickos who align with you―I also find it very rich that a person who did this in her campaign ad is suddenly whining about fantasies of violence,” Kimmel added, before cutting to a picture of the congresswoman holding a sniper rifle that she raffled off to supporters.
In September 2021, Greene made headlines when she offered a giveaway of a Barrett M82A1 sniper rifle to raise money for her reelection campaign.
At the time, Greene told Newsweek that she used gun giveaways to oppose purported Democratic policies and to allow people to “defend themselves from criminals.”
“With increased murders due to Democrat defund the police policies, people need guns to defend themselves from criminals who feel emboldened because they know they can get away with more crimes because the police have no support,” Greene said in a statement.
“It’s amazing how quickly you can go from ‘These liberals—you can’t say anything anymore!’ to ‘What did you say? I’m calling the cops!’ It must be that cancel culture they’re always talking about,” Kimmel added on Thursday.
Kimmel went on to accuse Greene of attempting to “get some political mileage out of this.”
“This is what she does instead of working,” he said, and added that it was “rich” of her to report him to the Capitol police the same police she “voted against giving a congressional gold medal to for defending our capital against the insurrection she helped incite on January 6.”
Last June, Greene said she voted against awarding the Congressional Gold Medal to Capitol Police Officers and MPD because she does not believe the legislation should refer to the events of January 6 as an insurrection.
“I wouldn’t call it an insurrection,” Greene told reporters at the time.
The Capitol Police previously told Newsweek that it “cannot confirm or discuss any potential investigations” after being contacted about Greene’s alleged complaint.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, Greene’s Communications Director Nick Dyer told Newsweek that the messages in the video represented “some” of the “threats” that had been “coming into our office.”
Kimmel also said he finds it “very rich” that Greene, of all people, “is suddenly whining about ‘fantasies of violence,’” and explaining why. “She’s a snowflake and a sociopath at the same time—a snowciopath, as we will call it from now on,” he said. “I realize maybe other Republicans like having her around to make the rest of them seem normal.”
Finally, Kimmel decided it was time to file a report of his own and said that he would go “right to the top” and report her to the Justice League before jokingly penning a letter to Batman.
“Dear Batman,” he narrated as he penned a letter. “I’m writing about a woman who might be a supervillain.”
