Butler threw a hand in as James pulled the ball up for a right-handed layup, knocking it out of his hand and extending the game to overtime.
It was one of several solid defensive plays Butler made against James, who was held to 15 points in regulation. James did pull in nine rebounds and drop off eight assists, however.
The Bulls would go on to win, 95-88, in overtime.
