Winston said he had a “hook up” with an employee at the Publix. Is that true?

“If he says it is, I guess it is,” Fisher said on the ACC teleconference on Wednesday.

Winston participated in a mock draft interview in February with Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch. That’s when Winston addressed the incident.

“Well, a week before it was my buddy’s birthday and we had got a cake and we met a dude that worked inside Publix and he said, ‘Hey, anytime you come in here, I got you.’ So that day we just walked out and he hooked us up with that,” Winston told Harbaugh during the show’s filming in February. “And when I went in to get crab legs, did the same thing and he just gave them to me and I walked out. Someone from inside the store had told the security that I didn’t pay for them, and that’s how the whole thing started.”

Fisher said Florida State’s compliance department was in contact with Publix before and after the incident and continues to work to resolve the issue.

“They think it’s a totally isolated incident,” Fisher said. “We’re in the process; working it right now. I don’t think it’s anything else more than that.”

Will the revelation of the details around the incident affect Winston’s draft status?

“I have no idea,” Fisher said. “That’s for them to decide. That’s totally news to me.”
