“He played well,” Fisher said after the loss. “He manned our team and I thought he did a great job at manning our football team … I am very happy with Sean. This was a tough game against a tough team. We’re not down on Sean in any way, shape or form.”

Fisher said it wouldn’t have made a difference on whether he started Golson or not. In fact, Golson was Maguire’s biggest cheerleader on the sideline.

“It was good,” Maguire said. “He was helping me, telling me what he was seeing. He was helpful.”

Maguire started against Syracuse last week while Golson was still suffering from a concussion. He threw three touchdowns for 348 yards in Week 9, but only threw for 164 yards and an interception against Clemson.

“You got to throw it away,” Fisher said of Maguire’s interception. “He got pressure … and we can’t have turnovers and we (were) only up to scores.”

Fisher said it wasn’t so much the quarterback situation that contributed to FSU’s loss, but more of a failure to capitalize on openings.

“There were plenty of opportunities in that game to make plays, and we just came up a few seconds short, or it was self-inflicted, or they made a play,” Fisher said.
