Harbaugh’s name had also emerged as a top candidate for Michigan’s vacant head coaching position — not anymore. Michigan indeed recently reached out to Harbaugh but gave up after being convinced the 50-year-old coach wants to remain in the NFL, according to Rapoport.
Harbaugh’s departure from San Francisco after the fourth year of his $25 million, five-year contract signed in 2011 has seemed like a forgone conclusion, but his landing place now becomes more clear.
Harbaugh also this week opened up to Cam Inman, a reporter for the Bay Area News Group. It was a rarity in which he talked of former Raiders boss Al Davis, the man who gave Harbaugh his start in coaching.
