Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has warned that her department may not be able to fulfill its financial commitments after October 18 if Congress does not raise the debt limit by that time. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has said Democrats should raise the debt ceiling without Republican support using the budget reconciliation process. But with just 12 days to go until Yellen’s estimated date for a debt default, the stakes couldn’t be higher....

Lawmakers announced two bills on Wednesday, one to combat Chinese Communist Party pressure on American businesses and the other to propose sanctions on the United Front Work Department, which is responsible for Chinese influence operations abroad. The upset for the Democrats will likely see Republicans take control of Virginia’s House of Delegates. The races for New York mayor, New Jersey governor and Virginia governor also took place this week. The Democrats won New York and New Jersey, with Eric Adams and Philip Murphy winning those elections respectively....
